Medicare supplements are private insurance policies that cover care approved by but not paid for by regular Medicare. The terms Medicare supplements and Medigap are used interchangeably. 

 

Typically, Medicare supplement policies pay part or all Medicare coinsurance or deductibles. However, Medicare supplements will not pay for services not approved by Medicare.
