Detailed Answer

Continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) are residential settings providing many custodial and medical services. These communities often support those who need continuous care or supervision.

Residents usually start in an independent living section of the community. This section often includes single-family homes, condos, or apartments within the community.

As their need for care or supervision increases, they can move to a different section within the same community. Common sections that provide more care are assisted living or nursing home sections.

Continuing care retirement communities usually offer two types of contracts. One contract is for those with Long-Term Care Insurance, and the other is for those without coverage.

In addition to the purchase price, there are monthly fees associated with these communities. Generally, CCRCs are for individuals with the financial means to "age in place" after buying into the community.
