What is the difference between a prebiotic, probiotic and postbiotic?
Answer:
Prebiotics are substances that certain microorganisms can use in a way that provides a health benefit. Probiotics are live microorganisms that provide a health benefit when consumed in adequate amounts. Postbiotics, under the ISAPP scientific definition, are preparations of inanimate microorganisms and/or their components that provide a health benefit.
The terms aren't interchangeable, and some ingredients marketed within these categories don't fit neatly within scientific consensus definitions.
