Companion Care

What Does 'Companion Care' Mean?

Companion care is when a caregiver provides emotional support and connection to an individual.

More Information

Companions are caregivers who help individuals by offering friendship. It can be a great way to fight loneliness and encourage connection.

Companions aren't therapists; they're friends who hang out with individuals. They may listen to worries like a friend would, but not as a licensed professional. Companions may also plan weekly activities or join individuals on daily errand runs.

Many home health agencies pair companions with individuals based on shared personality traits. When caregivers and recipients have a lot in common, they may find it easier to be friends.

On top of offering friendship, companions may also help with some light housekeeping or chores. However, companions generally don't provide long-term care regularly.
